So the gang over at UNCW got word of the Mojo blog. They did a feature on their blog about this blog, and now I’m blogging about that blog. Is there a term for this? Maybe we can coin one.
Many thanks to them, and to all my Seahawk friends out there for all your support.

Also got some pics from my buddy JC in Raleigh. His son Fisher, seen below, and the Young Guns just won their 11U age group, all while sporting MOJO Warrior stickers on their helmets and gear. Right on! A big thanks to these kids too, and congrats on the championship.
“Coach Lakins” is on his way in the team MOJO van to pick me up, so gotta go hydrate. Game on. Will post more tonight, have a nice little story involving a band from Massachusetts. Thanks again to all of you for your love and encouragement. ~SS

Sitting there breathing it all in, including the pollen too unfortunately, I thought about home. I’ve been here for almost 4 months now – December 1 is when Christian told me I have cancer. I’ve had wicked good support from family and friends here. Jo Ann and Dad have been amazing. Mom flew cross country in the freezing temps to see me for a fun week and I’m gonna head her way soon. Friends and neighbors I’ve known 25+ years stopping by with food, a hug, a joke, whatever. We’ve weathered the very cold winter (as these parts go), and this health mess so far, and it feels energizing and comforting to be sitting at home with my Dad as the sounds and sights of Spring are kickin’ in. There is no other feeling like it.
And then there’s my other home. I got back from Wilmington/WB yesterday. Saw a lot of friends in a short amount of time, ate some fine food, saw my buddy Frank (and his Home Team crew! see pic below) who is kickin’ arse after his stem cell marrow treatment, got to spend a bit of time outside on the beach. Again, got mucho love and support from my gang all weekend long. It was beautiful out when I hopped on I-40 to head west. I was bummed to go. But left feeling lucky to have such great crew of people keeping my mojo in check and helping in so many ways. Left also knowing that the coastal sounds and sights of Spring are starting to call and I’ll be headed east again soon.
I discovered the band below about a week ago, and this is a current fav of mine. Song is about going home for bit. Not for health reasons really…just needing to go home to see peeps and get that hometown vibe when things are mixed up. Happy I have two choices.
Session #4 tomorrow at 2pm. Send some Mojo my way. Massive thanks to all my Warriors!

Fuck yeah Frank! Here’s Franks Home Team..his support crew, country cooking and acoustic jams. Part of the sights and sounds of Spring. That’s Frank sitting on his rear in the grass on the left.
Here’s the original video. A bit of a visual overload, but a louder, harder version..

Lots of my crew is in incredible shape and have done these things a zillion times over. Something I have never tried nor have any desire to, but I admire my friends that do it. It’s no easy feat and takes training and drive and a fair share of blisters and sore muscles. Not sure if anyone got their top time, but hopefully some of my gang had their best finish.
Wasn’t much chatter about setting world records for the 1 mile or 5k on Saturday, but I’m happy to announce that I set a PR this weekend. These are unofficial numbers, but here are my stats over a 3 hour period on Saturday at the Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon 1 Mile and 5k afternoon….
112 hugs, including 48 man-hugs
45 fist bumps
27 chest bumps
43 high fives
17 low fives, some of which came on the beach cruiser
23 kissy cheeks
57 photos, including 13 group selfies
I’m very proud of these numbers, mainly because they involved people I care about (try chest bumping yourself…not easy). Can’t thank my friends and family enough for coming out to support me, the fight against cancer, the race, etc. We sold over 100 shirts in what seemed like 12 minutes, and we obviously represented well at the event. Heard that this was the biggest turn-out ever for the Saturday of the Quintiles race…500+ folks showed up. The MW contingency was strong and a large percentage of that group. The volunteer group on the course was made up almost entirely of MW crew. Just a lot of love all the way around. Which is what my idea what this Mojo Warrior movement is. Support someone in need in numbers, with a boost with laughter, a hug, a pic, a kind word, a gift, a surprise…create some good mojo for that person, and help them fight whatever is is they are battling. It has certainly helped me.
I will have an update on how to get the shirts, the Mojo Warrior Foundation I’m forming and more later this week.
Huge thank you to my team that helped me set my PR. It will be a hard one to beat! Love ya’ll. ~SS

As a little side event to the Wrightsville Beach Marathon, some good friends have organized a MOJO run/walk in conjunction with the 1 mile and 5k. I THINK there are still slots open for the 1 mile and 5k – come out and have some fun with us, and get yo’ self one of the new MW tees. These will be available at the race, and online after the race weekend on the Without Limits website.
The 1 mile starts at 4pm at the Mayfair Event field on Saturday the 21st. 5 k is at 5pm.
Here are some more details:

Thanks again for all of your support. Looking forward to getting outside with everyone.

This is the same crew that built the website for my start-up apparel company, Organic Lifestyle Apparel. They are friendly, knowledgable, fast and inexpensive. A nice combo. If you need assistance with SEO, web design, mobile, social media, etc, please consider them. They’ve helped me many times.
